Overview

In West Africa, there is a substantial Muslim community, renowned for its vibrant culture and heritage. This competition invites imaginative designers to propose a spiritual pavilion that pays tribute to this dynamic religion. The envisaged space should be inviting, encouraging communal gatherings and providing a tranquil place for meditation, fostering unity and spiritual harmony. Embracing the beauty of Islam, the competition seeks designs that embody its fundamental principles, cultural importance, and architectural elegance. Participants are encouraged to propose original and imaginative ideas whilst respecting Islamic references and values.

 

Specifications

  • Participants are encouraged to propose original and innovative concepts while remaining mindful of Islamic references and values.
  • The design should embody the essence of Islam, creating a harmonious space that inspires reverence and contemplation.
  • Consideration should be given to the functional aspects of the pavilion, ensuring it facilitates communal gatherings and provides a tranquil retreat for spiritual reflection.

 

Guidelines

  • Designs must be original and adhere to the competition’s theme and objectives.
  • Participants are encouraged to explore to architectural styles and materials sustainably sourced from Africa, showcasing ingenuity and religious sensitivity.
  • Collaboration among designers and architects is permitted, with proper attribution given to all contributors.
  • The competition is open to ALL – professionals, students, engineers and enthusiasts alike, welcoming diverse perspectives and creative visions (maximum of 8 members per team)

 

Submission Requirement

  1. One – A0 board in JPEG format. Every team is encouraged to submit all the information they consider necessary to explain their proposal. Content may include but is not limited to plans, sections, elevations, visualisations and diagrams. The resolution of the boards must be 300dpi with the unique registration number placed in the upper left corner of the board in 22pt font.
  2. Word document file containing the project statement (250 Words Max) explaining the design proposal and concept.
  3. One – Main Image (16:9) of the Entry in a JPEG Format (Preferably a perspective view of the Pavilion that best showcases the design proposal)
  4. Submit your entry by using the upload link in your registration confirmation email.

 

Poster Layout: Posters can be in whichever layout the participant finds suitable; Portrait or landscape.

A zip file should contain: 1 X A0 (JPEG – 300 dpi) + 1 X Word DOC (250) Words + 1 X  Main Image (16:9) of the Project (JPEG – 300 dpi).

Note: All files must be named after the unique registration number.

 

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Creativity and originality in the design of the spiritual pavilion.
  • Alignment with Islamic principles and cultural aesthetics.
  • Practicality and functionality of the proposed space.
  • Overall aesthetic appeal and ability to evoke a sense of tranquility and spiritual harmony.
