Overview

Throughout human history, individuals have made significant contributions to the advancement of their communities and nations. African leaders, both past and present, are exemplary in this regard. Despite their flaws, their dedication and achievements have uplifted their people and propelled the continent towards progress.  This competition aims to honour these remarkable figures and their lasting impact. We extend an invitation to designers, artists, and creatives to join us in commemorating them through the medium of portraiture.

The judging criteria will focus solely on the artistic merit of the submissions, independent of the portrayed figures.

 

Theme

The competition theme revolves around honouring African leaders who have made significant contributions to the betterment of their communities, nations, and people. Their struggles for freedom and progress have left a lasting impact on the continent. Portraits should capture the essence of their leadership, resilience, and vision for a brighter future.

We welcome both historical and present leaders.

 

Specifications

  • Portraits can be created using various mediums, including but not limited to painting, drawing, digital art, and mixed media.
  • Participants are encouraged to explore diverse styles and techniques, expressing their unique interpretations of the theme; such as abstract art, realism, cubism, etc and key consideration will be given to artistic flair and expression.
  • Consideration should be given to the emotional resonance and visual storytelling of the portrait, aiming to evoke admiration and reflection.

 

Guidelines

  • Portraits should be sensitive to the historical context and cultural significance of the African leaders being depicted.
  • Participants should strive for originality and creativity in their interpretations, aiming to convey the depth and complexity of their subjects.
  • Collaboration among artists and creators is welcomed, with proper attribution given to all contributors.

 

Submission Requirement

  1. One – A3 Image in JPEG format. The resolution of the portrait must be 300dpi.
  2. The title/name of the Portrait Artwork.
  3. Each entry should feature a distinct registration number and description (up to 300 words) outlining the political figure and, in your view, the positive impact they have had for their people.
  4. Submit your entry by using the upload link in your registration confirmation email.

 

Poster Layout: artwork must be EXCLUSIVELY in portrait format, with dimensions of A3 size.

A zip file should contain: 1 X A3 (JPEG – 300 dpi) + 1 X Word DOC (300) Words

Note: All files must be named after the unique registration number.

 

Judging Criteria

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Relevance and sensitivity to the theme of honouring African leadership.
  2. Creativity and originality in artistic expression.
  3. Technical proficiency and skill in the chosen medium.
  4. Emotional impact and ability to capture the essence of the subject.
